Directions for Our Youth (DFOY) is a community-based organization (CBO) partnered with HSEI dedicated to transforming student outcomes through consistent, relationship-centered support. We focus on strengthening attendance, academic engagement, and post-secondary readiness by meeting students where they are and helping them build the skills, confidence, and direction needed for life beyond high school. Our team—composed of a Program Director, Youth Advocates, an Internship Coordinator, and Post-Secondary Specialists—each manage a dedicated caseload, ensuring every student receives intentional, individualized attention. We work closely with school staff to strengthen the school community and foster a culture where students feel supported, accountable, and empowered to succeed.

DFOY provides access to industry-recognized certifications that open doors to real opportunity, including CPR, Food Protection, Sexual Harassment Prevention, IT Helpdesk Administration, Medical Front Office, Mental Health Support, Phlebotomy, Microsoft Office Basics, and Microsoft Office Specialist credentials. We connect students to meaningful paid and volunteer internship experiences across community sites such as animal clinics, libraries, women’s shelters, youth centers, and daycare programs, helping them develop real-world skills, professionalism, and a strong work ethic. In addition, we expose students to diverse post-secondary pathways through partnerships with the Police Academy, U.S. Marines, and military recruitment programs, expanding their understanding of career and educational options.

Through student townhalls, advisory sessions, and ongoing check-ins, we elevate student voice, build trust, and create spaces where young people can reflect, lead, and grow. These opportunities are designed not only to provide support and exposure, but to ensure students are actively engaged in shaping their own futures. Ultimately, DFOY prepares students to make informed decisions about their future and step confidently into their next chapter with clarity, purpose, and support.
